The National Assembly has agreed to remove the 1896 Redline, and the Ministry of Agriculture must take action within three months. Deputy Prime Minister Natangwe Ithete presented and supported the report in Parliament.

Dr. Job Amupanda, who has been pushing for the removal of the Redline, welcomed the decision.

“I am happy to inform you that Parliament has APPROVED a report, without changes, calling for the removal of the 1896 REDLINE. According to the rules, the Ministry must act within three (3) months! We thank Deputy Prime Minister Natangwe Ithete for his leadership. The 1896 Redline will be removed no matter what others say! We will keep fighting!” he shared on social media.

Last month, Dr. Amupanda spoke in court, saying the Redline is unfair and should be taken down. He believes it was created during colonial times and still causes problems today.

Many people have different opinions about this issue. Some say the Redline is outdated and unfair, while others believe it helps prevent animal diseases and protects trade.

Now, all eyes are on the Ministry of Agriculture as they prepare to make changes. The decision could have a big impact on farmers and the economy.
