NBC Dismisses Viral Social Media Claims as Fake
The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has dismissed as false a social media post alleging that veteran presenter Denver Kisting was involved in a heated confrontation with former Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, during the broadcaster’s current affairs programme, Talk of the Nation.
In a media statement issued on 30 July 2026, the national broadcaster said it was aware of the fabricated post circulating on various social media platforms and stressed that the alleged incident never took place.
“The NBC rejects the misinformation as the incident never occurred,” the corporation said.
NBC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and editorial independence across all its programming, adding that it remains dedicated to delivering credible and factual content to the public.
The broadcaster also distanced itself from what it described as fabricated claims involving its programmes, employees, presenters and television personalities, warning that the spread of false information undermines public trust in credible media institutions.
NBC further urged members of the public to exercise caution when consuming and sharing content on social media. It encouraged people to verify information through official and credible sources before reposting or disseminating it further.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation and digitally manipulated content on social media platforms, which has increasingly affected public figures, institutions and media organisations.
NBC concluded by reiterating its commitment to factual reporting and responsible journalism while calling on the public to play their part in combating the spread of fake news.
