Hichilema Condemns Political Violence Ahead of Zambia’s Elections

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has condemned reports of political violence in some parts of the country and called on all political parties to conduct their campaigns peacefully and within the law.


In a statement, Hichilema described reports of violence as deeply concerning and warned that acts of intimidation and lawlessness by any political party, candidate or supporter would not be tolerated.

The President said every political party has the legal right to campaign during the period allocated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.


He further stated that any individual or group attempting to disrupt lawful political activities would be breaking the law and should face the full consequences.

Hichilema urged political parties and their supporters to campaign responsibly and peacefully, stressing the importance of safeguarding Zambia’s peace, unity and democratic values.


The statement comes as political parties continue preparations and campaigns ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
