A 41-year-old woman charged in connection with the death of her domestic worker has been denied bail after making her first court appearance in Rundu on Monday.

The accused, Roide David, appeared before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu at the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, arson, and defeating or obstructing the course of justice. The charges stem from the alleged killing of 22-year-old Angolan national Fernandu Christine Chipi at Mile 30 village in the Ncamagoro Constituency of Kavango West over the weekend.

According to allegations before the court, David is accused of killing the young woman and then setting fire to the room where the body was discovered in an alleged attempt to conceal the crime.

Magistrate Samupofu denied the accused bail and ordered that she remain in custody. The case was postponed to 1 September 2026 to allow David time to secure legal representation through legal aid.

Reacting to the incident, Ncamagoro Constituency Councillor Thomas Rengi condemned the alleged crime, stating that no disagreement or jealousy could ever justify the taking of a human life.

Rengi also revealed that efforts are continuing to locate and notify the deceased’s relatives, as authorities are still trying to trace Chipi’s next of kin.
