Prime Minister Ngurare Arrives in Cuba for High-Level Bilateral Talks and Official Engagements
Namibian Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has arrived in Havana, Cuba, for an official working visit scheduled to take place from 6 to 11 August 2026, where he is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings aimed at reinforcing the long-standing diplomatic and bilateral relations between Namibia and Cuba.
The Prime Minister was welcomed on arrival by Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina de la Caridad Vidal Ferreiro, Namibia’s Ambassador to Cuba, Lebbius Tobias, and Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Hans Haikali.
During his stay, Dr. Ngurare will hold official talks with his Cuban counterpart, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, to discuss matters of mutual interest and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
His programme also includes meetings with the President of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, as well as Vice Prime Minister Inés María Chapman.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary further includes visits to some of Cuba’s most significant national heritage sites, including the Memorial Square, the José Martí Memorial, and the Fidel Castro Centre, in recognition of the historical ties shared between Namibia and Cuba.
As part of his engagements, Dr. Ngurare is also expected to meet with Cuban youth and Namibian students pursuing their studies in Cuba. The interaction reflects Namibia’s continued commitment to strengthening educational cooperation and fostering youth development through its enduring partnership with the Caribbean nation.
Namibia and Cuba have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades, with cooperation spanning education, healthcare, technical assistance, and the liberation struggle. The official visit is expected to further consolidate these longstanding ties while exploring opportunities for expanded collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
