N$21.7 Million Onamafila Clinic Commissioned to Serve 24 Villages
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Esperance Luvindao, has commissioned the N$21.7 million Onamafila Clinic in the Ohangwena Region, with the new facility expected to provide healthcare services to residents from 24 villages.
The clinic, constructed at a cost of N$21,735,279, is part of government’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare, particularly for communities that depend on public health facilities.
Speaking during the commissioning, Luvindao said the high dependence on public healthcare demonstrates the importance of investing in facilities that can provide quality services to all communities.
Many Namibians depends on public healthcare. That already shows you that our focus must be invested in making sure that everybody gets quality healthcare,” she said.
Luvindao said the new facility represents an important investment in healthcare infrastructure, noting that it would serve not just one or a few communities, but residents from 24 villages.
She urged the community to take ownership of the facility and ensure that it is properly maintained.
“This clinic does not belong to Luvindao,This clinic does not belong to the Honourable Governor.
This clinic does not belong to the leadership. This facility belongs to everyone, every single one of you,” she said.
Luvindao encouraged community members to raise concerns when the facility is not properly maintained, including when the clinic is dirty or its condition deteriorates.
She also called on healthcare workers assigned to the facility to prioritise good customer service and ensure that patients are treated with respect.
“Customer service, customer service, customer service,” she emphasised.
The minister acknowledged that government has placed significant focus on constructing new healthcare facilities in response to communities’ demands for improved health services.
However, she cautioned that infrastructure alone would not guarantee better healthcare delivery if the attitude and conduct of some healthcare workers did not improve.
Luvindao said healthcare workers must therefore ensure that the new facility delivers not only modern infrastructure but also quality, patient-centred services to the communities it serves.
