Mnangagwa, UAE Minister Discuss Trade, Investment and Border Digitisation

Zimbabwe is seeking to deepen its economic and strategic cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with trade, investment, aviation, infrastructure development and border digitisation among key areas discussed during a high-level meeting in Harare.
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa today received UAE Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, and his delegation at State House.
The engagement forms part of Zimbabwe’s ongoing engagement and re-engagement efforts aimed at strengthening relations with strategic international partners and creating opportunities to support the country’s economic development.
According to information from the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening Zimbabwe-UAE bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas considered important to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation.
Trade and investment featured prominently, as Zimbabwe continues to seek increased foreign investment and stronger economic partnerships with international markets.
The two sides also discussed aviation, critical infrastructure development and the digitisation of borders, areas that could contribute to improved connectivity, efficiency and economic activity.
The discussions come as Zimbabwe continues to pursue partnerships with international investors and governments as part of efforts to attract capital, promote economic growth and create employment opportunities.
The UAE has emerged as an important economic partner for several African countries, particularly in areas such as investment, logistics, infrastructure, trade and aviation.
For Zimbabwe, strengthening relations with the UAE could provide opportunities to expand investment cooperation and support infrastructure and economic development initiatives.
The meeting also reflects the broader direction of Zimbabwe’s foreign policy, which has placed greater emphasis on engagement with international partners to advance economic interests and attract investment.
Zimbabwe has maintained that mutually beneficial international partnerships are important to its national development agenda and efforts to position the country as a competitive investment destination.
The latest engagement between Mnangagwa and the UAE delegation is therefore expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to identify areas of cooperation that can translate diplomatic relations into tangible economic opportunities for Zimbabwe.
