Ongwediva Residents, Councillors and Private Partners Join Cleaning Campaign
ONGWEDIVA, Residents, town councillors, council staff and private-sector partners joined forces on Friday for the Ongwediva Town Council’s Annual General Cleaning Campaign, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and maintaining cleaner public spaces.
The campaign was officially launched by Ongwediva Mayor Her worship Naemi Amuthenu, who called on residents to take ownership of their surroundings and make cleanliness a year-round responsibility.
Amuthenu said maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that contributes to improved public health, environmental sustainability and a better quality of life for residents.
“This campaign is more than just a one-day clean-up exercise. It is a commitment to building a culture of cleanliness, environmental stewardship and community participation.
Together, we can make Ongwediva a healthier, cleaner and more beautiful town for everyone,” she said.
Participants cleaned streets, public spaces and other strategic areas across Ongwediva, demonstrating the importance of collective action in maintaining the town’s environment.
The campaign was coordinated by the Division of Health and Environment under the Department of Economic Development and Community Services.
The town council said the Annual General Cleaning Campaign will now become an annual initiative aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and encouraging active community participation in keeping Ongwediva clean.
The initiative also received support from First National Bank (FNB) Namibia and Oshakati Pharmacy, which provided cleaning materials and other supplies for the campaign.
The Mayor expressed her appreciation to the councillors, staff members, residents, public and private institutions, volunteers and other participants who contributed to the campaign.
It said collaboration between local government, residents and the private sector is important in promoting environmental sustainability and community well-being.
Her worship further said maintaining a clean and attractive urban environment is important not only for residents but also for attracting investment, businesses and visitors to Ongwediva.
The campaign forms part of the town’s broader efforts to promote a cleaner, greener and healthier environment through shared responsibility and community participation.
