DEPUTY MAYOR WELCOMES DELEGATES TO KATIMA MULILO FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY COMMEMORATION
Katima Mulilo Town Council Deputy Mayor, Hon. Charity Mushabati Matongo-Mabuku, has welcomed delegates and invited guests to Katima Mulilo for the national commemoration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
The commemoration is being held under the theme, “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Wellbeing.”
In her welcoming remarks, Matongo-Mabuku said it was an honour for the Katima Mulilo Town Council and residents to host the national event, which celebrates the heritage, resilience and contributions of indigenous peoples to Namibia.
She welcomed the representative of the Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Hon. Moses //Khumub, Zambezi Regional Governor Hon. Dorothy Kabula, Deputy Ministers, regional and local authority councillors, traditional leaders, senior government officials, representatives of indigenous minority communities from across the country, indigenous midwives and other invited guests.
The Deputy Mayor paid tribute to indigenous midwives for their dedication to safeguarding lives and preserving indigenous knowledge passed down through generations.
She said their contribution continues to strengthen families and communities while helping preserve Namibia’s cultural heritage.
Matongo-Mabuku also encouraged visitors to experience the hospitality of the people of Katima Mulilo and the natural beauty of the Zambezi Region during their stay.
She concluded by wishing delegates a successful and memorable commemoration and called for continued efforts to preserve indigenous cultures, traditions and knowledge for the benefit of present and future generations.
