Otjozondjupa Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect (26) in Alleged Rape, Murder of Teen

Police in the Otjozondjupa Region are searching for a 26-year-old man following the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl on a farm approximately 62 kilometres from Otavi on Friday.
The suspect, who reportedly lives on the same farm, is believed to have used a rifle in the killing. Police have launched an investigation and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
According to Otjozondjupa Police Spokesperson and Liaison Officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the girl left the house on Friday afternoon. About an hour later, other people at the farm reportedly heard a gunshot.
Concern grew after the teenager failed to return home. The following morning, a man who had been looking for her discovered what appeared to be bloodstains leading towards her body. The police were subsequently notified and attended the scene.
The teenager’s body was later transported to the Otjiwarongo Police Hospital mortuary.
Police said the deceased’s relatives had not yet been informed at the time of the report.
