Mother Seeks Help for DNA Test to Confirm Lost Son’s Identity

A 53-year-old woman, Elizabeth Filinga from Mile 20 Village in Kavango West, is asking for financial help to pay for a DNA test. She believes she has found her son, who went missing 15 years ago.

The police in Rundu and Arandis, as well as the Ministry of Gender, have been informed about the situation. However, Filinga cannot take the young man home without proving he is her son through a DNA test, which she cannot afford. She is now asking for financial support to pay for the test.

What happened?

Her son disappeared in April 2010 when he was just five years old. He and his twin sister were herding cattle in the Mile 20 area when they both went missing. The police later found his sister alone and without clothes, but there was no sign of the boy.

For 15 years, Filinga never lost hope. Then, on March 24 this year, she received a WhatsApp message from a woman in Arandis who had heard about her story. The message included a photo of a young man and asked if he could be her missing child.

Filinga showed the picture to her family, and they all agreed the young man looked like her son. Without hesitation, they traveled from Rundu to Arandis to meet him.

Now 20 years old, the young man only remembers small details about what happened that day in 2010.

Filinga is now hoping to confirm his identity and is asking for help to pay for the DNA test.
