Ngurare Tells Governors: Deliver Tangible Results with NASRIA’s N$25 Million Boost

Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has urged Namibia’s regional governors to ensure that the landmark N$25 million donation from the Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association (NASRIA) translates into real improvements in people’s lives.

Speaking at the Windhoek Country Club & Resort during the official handover, Ngurare said the funds are meant to strengthen the capacity of governors’ offices across all fourteen regions, enabling them to respond more effectively to community needs and socioeconomic challenges.

He reminded governors that they serve as the “face and voice” of the President and central Government in their regions, and called on them to remain humble, accessible, and attentive to local concerns. “Governors must not only listen but act ensuring that national priorities are felt on the ground,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister also commended Finance Minister Hon. Ericah Shafudah for her role in securing the intervention, noting that stronger regional offices are vital for bridging the gap between policy and delivery.

Ngurare pressed governors to build strong stakeholder relationships and to capacitate councillors, arguing that effective regional governance depends on empowered local leadership.

He further highlighted President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s directive that each region should anchor development in its own resources and production, driving projects and manufacturing initiatives that create economic value. “The NASRIA donation must be used strategically not for optics, but for initiatives that communities can see, feel, and measure,” Ngurare said.

Reiterating President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s call for unity, he reminded Namibians that prosperity requires collective effort: “We are too few to be poor.”

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to NASRIA’s board and management, reaffirming Government’s commitment to ensuring that partnerships of this nature deliver lasting benefits across Namibia.
