President Nandi-Ndaitwah Congratulates Hichilema on Re-Election

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has congratulated Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election following Zambia’s presidential elections held on 13 August 2026.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, Nandi-Ndaitwah, on behalf of the Government and people of Namibia, extended her warm congratulations to Hichilema and wished him wisdom, strength and success as he begins his renewed mandate.
The President said Hichilema’s re-election comes with both the privilege and responsibility of serving all Zambians, strengthening democratic institutions and protecting the peace and unity necessary for national development.
She also commended the people of Zambia for participating in the democratic process and exercising their right to determine the leadership and direction of their country.
Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the importance of strengthening democratic culture across Africa, saying elections must be conducted peacefully, political differences managed through democratic and legal institutions, and the will of the people respected.
She further noted that protecting democracy is a shared responsibility involving governments, political leaders, institutions, political parties and citizens.
According to the President, Namibia and Zambia share historical bonds that extend beyond their geographical proximity, having been forged through the common history and sacrifices of the liberation struggles in Southern Africa.
She said the two countries continue to maintain close political, economic and people-to-people relations through platforms including the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia looks forward to working closely with Hichilema during his renewed mandate to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, infrastructure development, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, economic development and people-to-people exchanges.
She emphasised that greater regional cooperation is necessary as Southern Africa continues to face challenges including unemployment, climate change, economic development, peace and security.
“Namibia remains committed to working with Zambia in promoting peace, security, stability, democracy and sustainable development in Southern Africa,” the statement said.
The President expressed confidence that Zambia would continue contributing to regional integration, peace and security, and the economic advancement of Southern Africa and the African continent.
She also conveyed Namibia’s commitment to continued cooperation with Hichilema, his government and the people of Zambia as the two neighbouring nations build on their historic friendship and pursue a shared future of peace, prosperity and development.
The Government and people of Namibia wished President Hichilema, his government and the people of Zambia continued peace, unity and prosperity.
