Plateau State Governor Pays Courtesy Visit To Prime Minister
Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare today received the Executive Governor of Nigeria’s Plateau State, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and identifying new areas of cooperation between Namibia and Nigeria.
The two leaders discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including tourism, agriculture, beef production and the creative industries.
Governor Mutfwang congratulated Namibia on its recent oil discoveries and shared Nigeria’s experience in managing its petroleum resources.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the petroleum sector contributes to sustainable national development, peace and prosperity, drawing attention to the lessons Nigeria has gained from its own experience in the oil industry.
The Governor also expressed interest in Namibia’s expertise in tourism and wildlife management as Plateau State advances plans to establish a game park.
He noted that Namibia’s experience in wildlife conservation and tourism development could provide valuable lessons for Plateau State as it develops its own tourism potential.
Opportunities for cooperation in the beef export sector were also discussed, with both sides recognising the potential for stronger agricultural and livestock-related partnerships.
The creative industries also featured prominently during the discussions. Governor Mutfwang highlighted Nigeria’s vibrant creative sector, particularly Nollywood, and identified opportunities for greater collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
Prime Minister Ngurare welcomed the engagement, stressing the importance of revitalising Namibia-Nigeria cooperation through practical partnerships that generate mutual benefits.
“We have a longstanding relationship, and there is much more that we can do together. We must continue to identify areas where our two countries can learn from and support each other,” Prime Minister Ngurare said.
The meeting reflects efforts by Namibia and Nigeria to broaden bilateral cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic relations and towards practical partnerships in sectors with the potential to contribute to economic growth, investment and development.
The Nigerian delegation accompanying Governor Mutfwang comprised Ambassador Bagudu Hirse, former Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia; Mrs Temitope M. Ishola, Minister at the High Commission of Nigeria in Namibia; and Mr Manji Wilson, Chief Technical Adviser on Development Partnerships and Diaspora Engagements.
