Namibia Seeks Lessons for Youth Development at Global Parliamentarians’ Conference
Namibia is looking to learn from the experiences of other countries as young parliamentarians from around the world meet in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
Vice-Chairperson of the National Council, Hon. Emma-Tangi Muteka, said Namibia is ready to share ideas with other countries while also gaining practical knowledge that could help address challenges facing young people at home.
The conference, taking place from 4 to 6 September 2026, brings together young members of parliament to discuss issues affecting youth and their participation in political and social development. The official theme is “Reclaiming human rights, justice and dignity for all in turbulent times.”
Among the issues expected to receive attention are youth unemployment, particularly in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 8, as well as the impact of conflict on young women involved in politics.
Muteka said the Namibian delegation hopes to return with practical ideas and lessons that can be adapted and put into action in Namibia.
She is attending the conference alongside fellow National Council member Hon. Nestor Sheimi.
The annual IPU conference provides young parliamentarians with an opportunity to exchange experiences, build partnerships and develop common approaches to issues affecting young people.
