Hardap Stakeholders Discuss Sustainable Tourism Development
Government and tourism stakeholders in the Hardap Region have renewed their commitment to strengthening local participation in the tourism sector and ensuring that communities benefit from the region’s tourism resources.
The commitment was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Forestry, Ms Seimy Shidute, to the Office of the Governor of the Hardap Region.
The engagement formed part of Shidute’s consultations with regional stakeholders on issues affecting tourism development and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Among the matters discussed was the role of Traditional Authorities in tourism concessions. Stakeholders stressed the importance of creating mechanisms that allow Traditional Authorities and surrounding communities to participate in tourism activities and receive tangible benefits from the sector.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation between government institutions and tourism operators to support responsible tourism development while preserving the region’s natural and cultural resources.
The Chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council attended the meeting together with representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and Wilderness.
The engagement concluded with an emphasis on continued collaboration to expand tourism opportunities, strengthen community participation and contribute to the economic development of the Hardap Region.
