NFA Postpones League Kick-Off date Again
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has postponed the start of the domestic football season once again, with the association still working to finalise the resources required for the leagues to get underway.
NFA Football General Secretary Mabos Vries confirmed that the previously announced kick-off dates will not go ahead as planned.
The NFA had announced that the Lower League would kick off on 2 October, followed by the Premier League on 9 October, while the women’s football league was scheduled to begin on 7 November.
However, Vries said the association is currently facing unforeseen circumstances and is still working with various stakeholders to finalise the necessary resources.
“We are announcing that the Lower League will kick off on 2 October and the Premier League will kick off on 9 October, while the women’s football league will kick off on 7 November, that’s what we said.
“Currently, due to unforeseen circumstances, we need some resources. We are still in the process of finalising our resources and mobilising support from various stakeholders. So, for the coming weekends, unfortunately, we will not be in a position to kick off, as we are still putting things together,” Vries told NBC Sport.
He added that the NFA expects to provide clarity on the new dates by the end of next week.
The latest postponement comes after Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare said he expected government ministries, including the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and the Ministry of Works and Transport, to work on the outstanding matters by next week to allow the leagues to get underway.
