Police Officer Says Cops Are Well Paid, Calls for Financial Education Instead of Salary Increases

A Namibian police officer goes by name Ndango Done Deal on social media with more than 10 years of service as a police member has sparked discussion online after publicly wrote to Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare that police officers are already well paid and may need better financial management rather than salary increases.
In a social media post addressed to the Prime Minister, the officer said their salaries are sufficient and argued that financial discipline and education could help officers manage their income more effectively.
“Dear Honorable Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, im a proud 10+ years Namibian police force constable member and i can testify that we the Namibian police force members are well paid by the Namibian government, we do not want salary increments because the government pays us well.” he wrote.
The officer further suggested that some of the financial difficulties experienced by employees could be linked to excessive borrowing and poor financial management.
“Those who says otherwise are only those who had oversused their payslips for debt purposes. Maybe we just need more financial management lectures to teach us to stay away from excessive debt taking…”
The officer also warned that increasing salaries alone may not solve financial challenges if employees do not manage their income responsibly.
“Even if you give us 100% salary increments, we will still complain after a short-while after receiving the gwap lift because of financial ill disciplinary.”
Concluding the message, the officer called for greater personal and financial discipline among police officers.
“All we need is discipline…. Good self and financial management will do us well and nothing more.”

The post has generated discussion around police salaries, personal financial responsibility and whether salary increases alone can address the financial pressures faced by public servants.
