Windhoek Leadership in Limbo as Key Meeting Cancelled Again

City of Windhoek

Efforts to elect the City of Windhoek’s office bearers for 2025 faced another setback this morning, as a special council meeting set for 9 December was called off. This marks the second cancellation in a week, prolonging the city’s leadership vacuum.

Tensions began on 2 December when councilors staged a walkout during a meeting initially convened for this purpose. The disruption occurred after presiding magistrate Immanuel Udjombala refused their request for a brief recess, citing a late start.

When the meeting resumed the following day, only four councilors were present, prompting its postponement to 9 December. With today’s cancellation, the City of Windhoek remains without a mayor, deputy mayor, or a chairperson for its management council, raising concerns about administrative continuity as the year draws to a close.

The ongoing delays have sparked calls for a resolution to ensure the city’s leadership structure is restored promptly.
