Namibia Observes International Anti-Corruption Day in Rundu

ACC in Rundu

Rundu, Namibia – Namibia today joined the global community in marking International Anti-Corruption Day, with this year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The event, held in Rundu, highlighted the nation’s commitment to combating corruption and fostering a culture of integrity, particularly among the youth.

The day also marked a significant milestone for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as it officially opened its new regional office in Rundu. The office aims to strengthen the fight against corruption in the Kavango East region, bringing anti-corruption services closer to the local population.

Speaking at the event, ACC Director-General Paulus Noa emphasized the importance of involving young people in the fight against corruption. “The youth are the future of this nation. By equipping them with the knowledge and tools to reject and report corrupt practices, we are shaping a more transparent and accountable Namibia,” he said.

The commemoration included panel discussions, educational outreach programs, and cultural performances, all centered around raising awareness about corruption’s detrimental effects on society and the economy.

Community members and stakeholders lauded the new ACC office, describing it as a vital resource in addressing corruption at the grassroots level.

International Anti-Corruption Day, observed annually on December 9, serves as a global reminder of the need to eradicate corruption and uphold integrity in all sectors. Namibia’s focus on youth involvement this year underscores its dedication to shaping a corruption-free future.
