The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) has announced that candidates who were previously declared medically fit, but were not selected for training, are now required to report this Friday for further assessment.
NDF spokesperson, Colonel Petrus Shilumbu, stated that the group will first undergo an additional medical examination. If successful, they will then proceed through another round of the recruitment process before being cleared for basic military training.
The announcement follows an incident last week in which around ten hopeful recruits camped outside the Osona Military Base. Despite having passed their medical evaluations, they were not selected to continue with training. Of those ten, only one was officially selected within the region, but he too was unable to commence training.
Several individuals from the group report that they remained near the base, hoping that some of the selected candidates might withdraw, giving them a chance to be reconsidered.
On Tuesday, Colonel Shilumbu said he could not confirm whether the group was still camping at the base.
