Namibian artist and disability advocate Alvarita Benedito Lucungo, known to many as Alvara, left for Nairobi, Kenya yesterday. She is attending the Inclusive Africa Conference 2025, which runs from 3 to 5 June.
Alvara, who is visually impaired due to Congenital Glaucoma, is not just representing Namibia—she will also perform her latest song, titled “See Us”, which she created especially for the event.
Besides performing, Alvara will join a panel discussion to talk about the creative industry and how it can include more young people with disabilities. She is also taking on a new role as Ambassador for the Face of Africa initiative.
Joining her in Kenya is Simalumba Nawa, a strong voice for disability rights and the founder of The Blindspot Communication and Consultants.
Together, they are shining a light on Namibia’s efforts to support inclusion, accessibility, and youth development across Africa.
