False Report Unravels: Oshakati Man Sells Own Bed, Files Fake Housebreaking Case

A strange case of fraud and deception has emerged in Oshakati’s Golf Location, where a 28 year old man is accused of orchestrating a fake housebreaking to cover up the private sale of his own bed.

According to Oshana police, the man initially claimed that his house had been broken into during the early hours of Sunday after he returned from a soccer match. He reported that a bed worth nearly N$10,000 purchased on hire purchase from a local Lewis Store six months prior had been stolen during the alleged break-in.

However, investigations took a dramatic turn when another individual came forward and informed police that he had purchased the same bed directly from the complainant for N$2,000, of which only N$1,000 had been paid.

In an unexpected twist, that buyer then resold the bed for N$2,800 to someone else in Epyeshona village, Okatana Constituency unknowingly helping expose the original lie.

The bed has since been recovered by the police from the second buyer, while the man who filed the false report is now on the run. Law enforcement officials say all attempts to locate him at his residence have failed.

The suspect now faces possible charges of fraud and perjury. Police have warned the public against filing false reports, stressing that such actions not only waste resources but also have legal consequences.
