Ngurare, Traditional Leaders Unite to Accelerate Development in Kavango East

Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare on Thursday, 11 July 2025, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Sofia Mundjembwe Kanyetu, the Hompa of the Sambyu Traditional Authority, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between government and traditional leaders in the Kavango East Region.

The high-level visit aimed to enhance collaboration between the national, regional, and traditional tiers of government in addressing the region’s development challenges. Key focus areas discussed included improving water supply systems, upgrading road infrastructure, expanding healthcare services, boosting education, and supporting agro-processing initiatives to benefit local communities.

Dr. Ngurare emphasized the importance of uniting all levels of leadership to fast-track development, saying, “Traditional authorities play a vital role in community mobilization and grassroots development. Working together, we can transform the socio-economic landscape of this region.”

He was accompanied by Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Dr. Emma Kantema, and Kavango East Governor, Hon. Julius Hambyuka. The officials explored collaborative strategies to uplift the region, which has long faced developmental delays due to limited infrastructure and resources.

Chief Kanyetu welcomed the delegation and expressed hope that the visit would translate into tangible improvements for her community.
