Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Emma Theofelus, was present at the Kavango East Regional Council in Rundu for a key stakeholder engagement aimed at advancing Namibia’s ICT development. The meeting provided a platform for dialogue on improving digital infrastructure, expanding network coverage, and promoting access to information across the region.
During her address, Minister Theofelus highlighted the growing demand for ICT services and the challenges operators face in establishing network towers. She noted that despite applications to local authorities and traditional councils, approvals are often delayed, and some landowners charge high fees, which hampers efforts to enhance connectivity.
The engagement also focused on mobile network coverage, television and radio access, digital literacy, and the overall accessibility of public information. Minister Theofelus emphasized that such collaborations are critical for fostering stakeholder feedback, cooperation, and innovative solutions to strengthen Namibia’s ICT sector.
