Police in the Oshana Region are investigating a suspected suicide following the death of a 32-year-old man at Oshikango location, Oshakati West, on Saturday, 20 September.
The deceased has been identified as Muunda Mwapopyange Mentos, a financial advisor employed at Old Mutual.
According to police reports, Mentos’ body was discovered by a fellow tenant, who became alarmed after he failed to answer phone calls for two days. Suspicion grew further when it was noted that his vehicle, parked behind another tenant’s car, had not been moved since Wednesday.
The tenant eventually peered through a toilet window, where he saw Mentos lying motionless. Police were immediately alerted.
A close friend of the deceased told authorities that Mentos had recently shown signs of emotional distress, reportedly triggered by a recent arrest and family challenges involving his brother, who is said to be battling mental health issues in South Africa.
Although no visible injuries were found on the body, police suspect possible poisoning. The remains were taken to the Oshakati Police Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police confirmed that no foul play is suspected at this stage and that Mentos’ next of kin have been notified. Investigations are ongoing.
