Walvis Bay Rural regional councillor, Donatus Tegako of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), was arrested this morning in connection with allegations of corruption.
IPC spokesperson Imms Nashinge confirmed the arrest, saying Tegako was taken into custody at the coastal town. He is accused of misusing government funds during his leadership.
Earlier, the party had suspended Tegako to allow internal investigations into the allegations. Following the suspension, The Updated World reported that the councillor was likely to face arrest, a development that has now materialised.
“Our party leadership is currently gathering comprehensive details about the circumstances surrounding this matter. The IPC remains steadfast in its commitment to justice, transparency, and the rule of law. We also affirm that every individual is entitled to due process and fair treatment under the Namibian legal system,” Nashinge said.
Tegako’s case has sparked widespread attention as it tests the party’s internal accountability mechanisms while legal proceedings take their course.
