Authorities in Outjo are investigating the cause of a devastating house fire that claimed the life of a 31-year-old man over the weekend.
The victim, identified as Wenfrey Useb, reportedly re-entered the burning home in an attempt to rescue children but was overcome by severe burns and smoke inhalation. He tragically did not survive.
Police say the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a cellphone charger that exploded inside the house. Another individual sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Emergency responders and law enforcement have urged the public to take extra precautions when using electrical devices, as faulty or unattended chargers remain a leading cause of domestic fires.
