A devastating fire swept through Ongulumbashe informal settlement in Windhoek on Wednesday, leaving 11 shack rooms reduced to ashes.
Residents reported that the blaze consumed nearly all their belongings, including clothing, mobile phones, and household items. Among the losses was about N$40,000 in cash, which one victim had saved for business.
“We lost everything our phones, money, clothes,” one resident told reporters who visited the scene.
Amid the destruction, residents noted a remarkable discovery: a Bible that remained untouched by the flames, despite the intensity of the fire.

Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the blaze, and affected families are appealing for urgent assistance to rebuild their lives.
