Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, has called on Namibia’s Ambassador-designate to the French Republic, Amb. Sabine Böhlke-Möller, to prioritise attracting investors who uphold fair, transparent, and responsible business practices in Namibia.

The Speaker made the remarks during a courtesy visit by Ambassador Böhlke-Möller on Monday, which focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Namibia and France. The two leaders discussed potential collaboration in parliamentary exchange, renewable energy, education, technical assistance, and efforts to reduce plastic pollution.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila emphasised that while Namibia welcomes foreign investment, it must be conducted in a manner that promotes mutual benefit, compliance with tax obligations, environmental protection, and local value addition through technology transfer and job creation.

“Investors are welcome to do business in Namibia, but they must operate responsibly and fairly,” she said. “Our country should not lose its natural wealth without receiving fair returns, value addition, or adherence to our environmental and tax laws.”

She further highlighted the need for a fair and gradual transition to renewable energy, ensuring developing nations like Namibia are not left behind in the global move toward sustainable economies. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila added that Namibia’s recent oil discoveries should be managed strategically to balance both traditional and renewable energy sources for national development.
