Tragedy struck the Tutaleni residential area of Walvis Bay on Sunday evening when a 37-year-old man was discovered dead in what police believe to be a suicide.
Erongo Police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, confirmed that the incident occurred around 20:00 at a house on King Fisher Street. The deceased was identified as Jesaya Sheetekela.
According to police reports, the discovery was made by the landlord, who became suspicious after not seeing her tenant for some time. She noticed that the light in his room was off, but a radio continued playing inside. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach him by phone and repeated knocks on the door, she decided to investigate further.
Upon peeking through the door, she realised the security chain was still fastened from the inside. When she finally managed to open the door, she found Sheetekela had taken his own life.
No suicide note was recovered at the scene. A nurse from the Walvis Bay State Hospital later confirmed his death. The body was taken to the police mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Senior Inspector Shomongula said that the deceased’s next of kin have been notified, and police are continuing with their investigation.
