NamPost Acts to Ease Social Grant Payment Delays says Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare

NamPost has taken swift action to address long queues and delays experienced by pensioners and social grant beneficiaries at several post offices, including Nkurenkuru, Katima Mulilo, and Rundu. The measures follow public concern over extended waiting times during the ongoing Social Cash Grant payouts.

According to Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, who engaged NamPost leadership on the matter, the delays were caused mainly by unexpected power outages in Rundu on Sunday, 12 October 2025. The outage affected system preparations for Monday’s payouts and coincided with an unusually large turnout of beneficiaries, particularly at smaller branches such as Nkurenkuru.

To resolve the situation, NamPost deployed an additional mobile payment unit to Nkurenkuru on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, to assist with ongoing payments and reach remote areas in the surrounding region. Regional leadership has also been tasked to help manage operations on the ground and ensure that all beneficiaries are attended to with dignity and care.

Regarding the Gibeon Post Office, NamPost confirmed that the branch, which previously operated only two days a week, now has a full-time staff member to ensure daily operations and improve service delivery.

Ngurare emphasized that this is the first Social Grant payout since NamPost was awarded the distribution contract and that the institution remains committed to continuous improvement. “We extend our sincere apologies to our elderly citizens for the disruptions caused and assure them that NamPost is dedicated to providing efficient, accessible, and uninterrupted service especially to beneficiaries in rural and remote areas,” he stated.
