The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced plans to introduce formal regulations for driving schools in Namibia, addressing a long-standing gap in the sector where no clear rules currently exist.

Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, said the ministry is in the process of drafting the regulations to ensure that driving schools operate under clear and consistent standards. He explained that the process is being done in consultation with key stakeholders to ensure the regulations are practical and effective.

Among those involved in the discussions are the police traffic departments, the National Road Safety Council, and the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund), as well as other relevant institutions linked to road safety and transport.

The proposed regulations are expected to improve the quality of driver training, promote road safety, and ensure that driving schools are properly monitored and held accountable. Once finalised, the rules will provide guidance on how driving schools should be registered and operated in Namibia.
