Namibia’s Youth Fund Disburses N$110.2 Million as 373 Projects Receive Approval

Namibia’s National Youth Development Fund has approved 373 youth-owned projects expected to create approximately 7,110 employment opportunities across the country, as the government continues efforts to support young entrepreneurs.
Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah revealed the latest figures while presenting the FY2026/27 Mid-Year Budget Review in the National Assembly. As of 25 September 2026, the fund had disbursed N$110.2 million from its total investment pool of N$317 million.
The approved projects cover all 14 regions, with the expected employment opportunities forming part of the fund’s broader goal of promoting youth entrepreneurship and expanding access to business financing.
Despite the progress, N$206.8 million of the total investment pool had yet to be disbursed at the reporting date. However, the government did not indicate how much of the outstanding amount had already been committed to approved projects.
The fund’s N$317 million investment comprises N$258 million allocated in the 2025/26 financial year and a further N$50 million provided in 2026/27, alongside contributions from public institutions.
The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) and Namibia Reinsurance Corporation (NamibRe) each contributed N$5 million, while the Namibia Agronomic Board provided N$2.5 million.
Funding is being channelled through the Development Bank of Namibia, Agribank and the Environmental Investment Fund to support eligible youth-owned businesses.
While the number of approved projects and projected employment opportunities points to the programme’s potential reach, the government has not disclosed how many of the anticipated jobs have already been created.
The actual employment impact will therefore depend on how quickly the funded businesses become operational, grow and recruit workers.
