Lightning Claims One Life, Injures Another in Kanyikama Village

One person has lost his life while another was left seriously injured after two separate lightning strikes hit Kanyikama village in the Mpungu Constituency on Friday afternoon.
Kavango West Regional Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo confirmed that the first incident occurred around 15:00. A 21-year-old man, identified as Kasera Immanuel Muyongo, was herding cattle with his cousin when heavy rainfall began suddenly. During the storm, he was struck by lightning and died instantly at the scene.
The cousin is said to have rushed home to alert family members, and the deceased’s relatives have since been formally notified.
Approximately an hour later, at about 16:00, lightning struck again in another part of the same village. A 26-year-old woman was hit while working in a maize field alongside her cousin.
She suffered serious burn injuries to her chest and both legs and was immediately taken for medical attention. The woman is currently receiving treatment at Nankudu State Hospital, where she is reported to be in a stable condition, although she continues to complain of chest pain.
Authorities have urged residents to take extra precautions during thunderstorms, especially when working outdoors.
