SWAPO SG Sophia Shaningwa Ask Veterans to End Demonstration at Party Headquarters

Namibian liberation war veterans camping outside the SWAPO Party national headquarters have been formally asked to dismantle their encampment by Tuesday at 10:00, report said.
The directive came from SWAPO Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa following a meetings involving the party, the demonstrators, and representatives of the United Nations (UN) on Saturday.
The meeting focused on long-standing grievances tied to the repatriation of Namibians who returned from exile in 1989 under UN supervision. According to Shaningwa, all issues raised by the veterans were “satisfactorily and exhaustively addressed” during these engagements.
In her official communication, Shaningwa emphasized that it was agreed the veterans would remove their tents and personal belongings from the premises by the stated deadline.
SWAPO noted that an earlier extension had been granted at the request of the demonstrators and expressed confidence that the veterans would comply peacefully with the party’s instructions.
However, the president of the veterans’ organization stated that they plan to take their concerns directly to the head of state, Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a meeting expected to take place within a month.
