Smart Lockers to End Long Queues at Nankudu Hospital Pharmacy

In a bid to reduce waiting times for patients and alleviate pressure on hospital staff, Nankudu Hospital in Kavango West has installed a Pelebox Smart Lockers system. The innovative technology is designed to streamline the collection of pre-packed chronic medication, allowing patients to access their prescriptions more efficiently.
The Pelebox system operates by storing medication in secure lockers, which are loaded in advance when a patient is due to collect their prescription. Patients are then notified via SMS that their parcel is ready for collection. Along with the notification, they receive a One-Time-Pin (OTP) that grants them access to their designated locker, ensuring both convenience and security.
While the system was reportedly installed at Nankudu Hospital in 2023, it has yet to be fully implemented and made operational for patients. Once activated, the technology is expected to significantly reduce queues at the hospital pharmacy, enhance patient satisfaction, and improve the overall efficiency of medication distribution.
Healthcare experts have highlighted that systems like Pelebox can play a critical role in supporting chronic care management by ensuring patients receive their medications on time without enduring long waits. The rollout at Nankudu Hospital aligns with broader efforts across the country to modernize healthcare delivery and integrate smart technology into hospital operations.
