NamPower Invests N$12 Million in Students Through Bursary Programme

NamPower has awarded bursaries valued at N$12 million to 15 students who are studying at tertiary institutions in Namibia and other SADC countries.
The power utility’s bursary scheme, which has been running for more than 26 years, continues to support the education of Namibians by investing in skills development across critical sectors. Over the years, the programme has produced many graduates who now occupy senior professional and leadership roles within NamPower and other areas of the national economy.
Speaking at the bursary award event, NamPower Managing Director Kahenge Haulofu said the company expects beneficiaries to represent both Namibia and NamPower with pride wherever they study. He emphasised that the true return on investment comes when students complete their studies and contribute meaningfully to national development, including taking leadership roles in public institutions.
The selected beneficiaries reflect NamPower’s commitment to inclusivity, with both men and women represented, including persons living with disabilities.
Students were awarded bursaries in a wide range of fields such as accounting, law, renewable energy, mechatronics engineering, oil and gas, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as data science.
One of the beneficiaries, Lydia Amupolo, who is pursuing a master’s degree in sustainable energy systems, said the bursary would ease her financial burden. She shared that growing up in a village without electricity inspired her to study energy-related fields, as she has seen how lack of power affects education, health and opportunities.
Another recipient, Karuli Kasanga, a second-year student at the University of Namibia, expressed gratitude for being selected, noting that many students do not get such an opportunity.
Law student Lucky Ndumbu also welcomed the support, saying the bursary would help him focus on his studies and prepare to make a positive contribution to society.
The bursaries were awarded to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, reinforcing NamPower’s long-term commitment to human capital development.
