Elderly Man Trampled to Death by Elephant in Kavango West

A 74-year-old man has lost his life after a fatal encounter with an elephant at Nduno village in the Kavango West region during the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Kandandu Thomas. Kavango West NAMPOL regional commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, confirmed that the incident happened at about 04h00 as Thomas and his wife were walking to their crop field.
It is alleged that Thomas briefly entered a nearby bush, where he unexpectedly came face to face with an elephant. The animal reportedly charged at him and trampled him to death.
His wife alerted members of the community, who later found his body at the scene with visible elephant footprints in the surrounding area.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
