Vehicle Falls Into Eroded Sinkhole in Rundu

A vehicle fell into an eroded sinkhole in the Tutungeni residential area in Rundu on Thursday morning after the driver reportedly lost control while reversing.
Traffic officials at the scene said the incident happened when the driver was reversing from a nearby building. During the manoeuvre, the vehicle moved off the road and fell into a ditch that had formed because of serious ground erosion in the area.
The vehicle was damaged after dropping into the sinkhole, which residents say developed due to ongoing erosion in the neighbourhood.
About two weeks ago, China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) was awarded a tender worth N$108 million to close sinkholes and improve stormwater drainage systems in Rundu.

Emergency medical personnel later assisted the female driver, whose age has not been made public. She was treated for shock at the scene and is reported to be in a stable condition.
