Man Stabbed to Death by Sister-in-Law During Domestic Dispute in Elisenheim

A fatal stabbing has left one man dead following a violent confrontation between family members at a residence in Elisenheim, on the outskirts of Windhoek, on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Abre Maasdorp, a Namibian male, died at the scene after allegedly being stabbed by his sister-in-law during the incident. Emergency services from the City of Windhoek responded to the scene and confirmed his death shortly after their arrival.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 14:35 and involved a couple who are currently separated and undergoing divorce proceedings. The situation reportedly escalated after the couple’s 18-year-old daughter contacted her father earlier that day, informing him that her mother was acting erratically and damaging items inside the house.
The father then travelled to the residence accompanied by his brother, Abre Maasdorp. Police said the father entered the house to confront his estranged wife while Maasdorp remained outside in the vehicle.
It is alleged that when the father entered the house, an argument broke out between the couple. During the confrontation, the woman reportedly told him that he would not be taking their daughter before grabbing a knife and stabbing him in the lower left side of his back.
The injured man managed to run outside, which alerted his brother. As Maasdorp approached the house to assist, the suspect allegedly stabbed him twice in the lower right side of the stomach and once in the right side of the chest. He collapsed shortly afterwards and was later declared dead at the scene.
During the altercation, police say the husband threw a small bottle of water at his wife, striking her on the forehead. Their daughter reportedly fled the house and sought safety at a neighbour’s residence.
Paramedics transported the injured husband to Mediclinic in Windhoek where he received treatment for injuries described as moderate.
The suspect, who police say is known to suffer from mental health issues, was also attended to by emergency personnel and later transported to Katutura Hospital with moderate injuries.
The body of the deceased was taken away by forensic officers as investigations into the incident continue.
