Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their Super Cup crown after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg, with Désiré Doué delivering the decisive moment in the second half.

Villa threatened to spoil PSG’s night through 17-year-old Brian Madjo, who scored just before half-time after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had put the French champions ahead. Madjo created several opportunities but was unable to add to his goal.

Doué restored PSG’s advantage in the 61st minute, curling a composed finish into the far corner after VAR confirmed he was onside.

The result made PSG only the fourth club to win the Super Cup in consecutive years, joining Ajax, AC Milan and Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique also claimed his third Super Cup as a manager, moving behind only Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola for total victories in the competition.

Madjo nevertheless made history by becoming the youngest player to score in the Super Cup at 17 years and 212 days.

Doué also finished the match with a goal and an assist, becoming the first player since Luis Suárez in 2015 to achieve both in a Super Cup match.
