Orlando Pirates Storm Into Fifth Straight MTN8 Final
Orlando Pirates delivered a dominant performance at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, sweeping aside Sekhukhune United 3–0 in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final to advance 4–0 on aggregate.
The Buccaneers entered the decisive encounter with a narrow 1–0 advantage from the first leg in Polokwane, but they quickly took control of the tie and never allowed Sekhukhune to mount a serious comeback.
Thapelo Mokobodi opened the scoring in the 37th minute after connecting with a dangerous delivery from Yanela Mbuthuma. Gamphani Lungu then doubled the advantage shortly afterwards, finishing a swift counter-attack to put Pirates firmly in command.
Kamogelo Sebelebele completed the scoring late in the match, giving the defending champions a convincing 3–0 victory on the day and a 4–0 triumph across both legs.
The result sends Orlando Pirates into their fifth consecutive MTN8 final, extending their impressive run in the competition. The Buccaneers are now waiting for the winner of the other semi-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows to determine their opponents in the final.
Pirates will also take confidence from their strong start to the domestic campaign, having remained among the early leaders of the Betway Premiership while continuing their pursuit of further silverware.
The MTN8 final will provide Pirates with another opportunity to defend their title and add to their recent success in the competition.
