NIPDB and MSC Cruises Open 130 Job Opportunities for Namibians

The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), in partnership with MSC Cruises, has announced that 130 job vacancies remain available for suitably qualified Namibians seeking employment opportunities aboard international cruise ships.
The initiative aims to address youth unemployment by connecting Namibian job seekers with international employment opportunities while providing them with practical experience and professional skills.
According to the Namibia Statistics Agency’s 2023 Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 34 stood at 44.1%, highlighting the challenges many young Namibians face in entering the labour market.
The partnership between NIPDB and MSC Cruises began in mid-2023 to create employment opportunities in several fields, including hospitality, food and beverage services, guest services, entertainment, retail, beauty and wellness.
Under the arrangement, NIPDB is responsible for raising awareness about the opportunities, engaging relevant stakeholders and connecting eligible Namibians with MSC Cruises. The cruise line, in turn, provides employment opportunities that expose successful applicants to an international working environment.
The initial recruitment campaign, conducted in 2023 and early 2024, attracted more than 8,400 applications. Of these, 42 candidates received job offers, while 25 eventually took up positions aboard MSC cruise ships.
The programme has since expanded, with MSC Cruises making close to 200 job opportunities available to Namibians in 2026. So far, 75 candidates have received employment offers, and four have already departed to begin their employment.
The remaining successful candidates are expected to join the cruise ships between November 2026 and March 2027, leaving 130 vacancies available for eligible applicants.
Beyond providing employment, the initiative is intended to help successful candidates gain international work experience, develop professional skills and become familiar with workplace standards in the global hospitality and tourism industries.
NIPDB has encouraged qualified young Namibians to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that international exposure can help them build their careers and improve their prospects in the labour market.
To qualify, applicants must be Namibian citizens aged 18 or older, have completed Grade 10, 11 or 12, and demonstrate proficiency in German.

The partnership forms part of efforts to expand access to employment and skills development through international cooperation, as Namibia continues to address unemployment and poverty.
