Inter Milan produced a dramatic late comeback on Sunday, scoring twice in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A at the San Siro.

Piotr Zieliński converted a penalty in the 90th minute plus seven minutes to complete the turnaround after Marcus Thuram had brought Inter level earlier in added time. The victory sent Inter back to the top of the league standings, level on 22 points with Lazio.

Fiorentina looked set to leave Milan with all three points after Álex Jiménez broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. The defender caught Inter off guard with a powerful long-range strike that gave the visitors the lead despite the hosts’ dominance.

Inter continued pushing for an equaliser, creating several opportunities but struggling to find a way past Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea.

The hosts finally found their breakthrough in the 90th minute plus one when Thuram finished from close range following a pass from Andy Diouf, sparking hopes of a late winner.

The comeback was completed six minutes later after Fiorentina defender Víctor Valdepeñas brought Thuram down inside the penalty area. Zieliński stepped up and converted from the spot to seal a memorable victory for Inter.

The result extends Fiorentina’s winless run to four matches and leaves the Florence-based side in the relegation zone, while Inter maintain their strong start to the campaign.
