According to the Namibian Police, the incident occurred around 19:30 at Akaonde village while the teenager was riding alone from his home to the nearby Okapanda location. It is believed the donkey cart overturned on a bend in the road, landing on the boy and causing fatal head injuries.
The boy died at the scene.
His lifeless body was discovered by a passerby, who immediately alerted local authorities. Police officers responded swiftly and confirmed the tragic incident. No foul play is suspected at this stage.
The boy’s next of kin, identified as his grandmother, has been informed.
Authorities have urged residents using donkey carts for transport to exercise extra caution, especially when travelling on uneven or poorly lit roads.
This incident marks yet another road-related tragedy involving animal-drawn carts in rural Namibia, raising concerns about safety and visibility for non-motorised transport users.
Police investigations continue.
