A Sunday evening road crash in Katima Mulilo has claimed the lives of three people and left two pedestrians seriously injured.

The fatal collision took place at approximately 19:24 along the B8 Road, near the Zambezi Vocational Training Centre.

Police said the incident involved a silver Toyota Wish, which was reportedly in the process of overtaking another vehicle when it struck two pedestrians.

The Toyota Wish subsequently entered the path of an approaching truck, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

The three occupants of the Toyota Wish died as a result of the crash, while the two pedestrians suffered serious injuries.

Following the impact, the truck caught fire and was completely destroyed by the blaze. Its driver was not injured in the incident.

Acting Zambezi Regional Commander Deputy Commissioner Magdeline Garises confirmed that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A case of culpable homicide, as well as reckless or negligent driving, has been opened as the investigation continues.
