A case involving a massive theft of over N$241 000 and an attempted murder charge was brought before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court today, where 33-year-old security guard Hamutenya Kandjimi stood trial.
Magistrate Sonia Somupofu presided over the matter, which stems from an incident that occurred on 8 September at the Namibian Protection Services (NPS) offices in Rundu. Court records indicate that Kandjimi allegedly gained unlawful entry into the company premises at around 04:00 and made off with the cash, which was in the lawful possession of his employer.
The stolen amount has not yet been recovered. Investigators only managed to retrieve two empty cash boxes believed to have contained the money.
In addition to the theft charge, Kandjimi is also facing attempted murder charges. He is accused of firing shots at a fellow security guard during the incident, leaving the colleague injured.
The matter has drawn significant attention due to the scale of the alleged theft and the violence involved. Proceedings are ongoing as the court considers both the theft and attempted murder charges against the accused.
