A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being electrocuted during a fire incident in Tseiblaagte, Keetmanshoop, on Friday morning.
According to preliminary police information, the fire broke out around 10h00 in a room where an electricity box was installed, before spreading to a nearby room. Authorities suspect that the power cable running from the pole to the affected room was extensively damaged in the process.
The child was reportedly holding onto a fence when a hanging live cable caught fire, leading to severe electrocution. Members of the Keetmanshoop municipal fire brigade rushed him to Keetmanshoop State Hospital before he was transferred to Windhoek for further treatment. His condition is described as critical.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire and circumstances that led to the electrocution.
