A health-focused community initiative in Nkurenkuru on Friday placed the spotlight on menstrual hygiene and support for the girl child. The event, led by local businessman Patrick Kalaluka, combined a health walk with a large-scale donation of sanitary pads to schools and vulnerable communities.
Kalaluka donated 4,892 pads valued at N$36,740.90 to Nkurenkuru Combined School, Kulisuka Primary School, Kanuni Halwoodi School, Mutengo Primary School, and to girls from the San community. The contribution aims to address the challenges many young girls face in accessing essential sanitary products, which often affects their school attendance and overall wellbeing.
The initiative received additional backing from ReconNamibia, which donated 2,728 pads worth N$19,068.22. Local artist DJ Vuyo, who attended as a special guest, pledged his support for the continuation of the project in the coming year.

According to the organisers, the health walk and donations not only promote physical wellbeing but also raise awareness about the importance of ensuring girls have the resources they need to pursue education without disruption.
